Winter 2021 Watercolor Class

This class series will explore traditional areas in art (landscape, still-life, floral, nature, figure, and seascape) using watercolors. Our subjects will take you on nostalgic trips down memory lane. All sessions are designed for beginning and intermediate painters, drawing from childhood memories anywhere in the world. Class will meet via Zoom on 8 consecutive Wednesdays 1pm-3pm (Eastern Time, U.S. and Canada) on January 13, 20, 27, February 3, 10, 17, 24, and March 3, 2021.

Our Supplies

the watercolor paints have honey as a carrier of pigments and as humectant to keep the paint moist; so it can be messy. Please keep the paints flat all the time. Please cover the paints when not in use.

one might intuitively want to add water directly into the paint well; please do not do that.
leave the pure color paints in the well clean; contaminated colors can end up looking "muddy".

these professional-grade paints are pure pigments made by M. Graham, so, a little bit of paint goes a long way.

the white color paint is only used to add a tiny bit of highlights (such as glistening water); it's not meant to be used to paint anything white (which can be achieved by leaving the white color paper exposed)
find clean plastic covers of takeout food containers and/or shallow containers/plates (transparent or white); dedicate these surfaces only for mixing colors; we'll call such surface a Palette.

use the tip of the small brush to pick up some paint to mix with a little bit of water on the Palette; make sure the paint and water are well mixed into a diluted solution.

then apply the diluted paint onto the paper to create watercolor painting; this will create transparent-looking watercolor painting

the thick paper is made of 100% cotton and can be painted on both sides.

The supplies that were given has the colors shown above.  For those using their own watercolor paint, feel free to use any colors that you may have that closely resembles these swatches.
