TEACHING AGREEMENT

Before the actual art classes begin, I will review samples of the student’s work, ask how they’d like to improve, then assess how best to move forward in preparing lessons.

HOW I TEACH

My approach to art (as a teacher) is traditional in subject matter and art media. My goal is that students understand the fundamentals of drawing and painting to which they can later build upon and add their own creativity.

A SINGLE CLASS

I offer a single (one-time) lesson if the client chooses.

MULTIPLE CLASSES

A course of lessons will be set up depending on the number of classes sought.

Each session can run for one to two hours and will start with a critique of the last homework assignment given; this will be between five to ten minutes.

The class continues with me sketching a painting demonstration. The student will then be given time to work on a similar image to which I will aid and instruct the student.

Coming to the end of the session, a new homework assignment will be given to further practice the art technique that was covered during the tutoring session.

SUPPLIES

The student will supply his own materials for the class.

CANCELLATION OF LESSONS BY STUDENT

I require 24-hour notice if a student needs to reschedule a class. No shows or lessons not attended by the student will not be refunded.

CANCELLATION OF LESSONS BY INSTRUCTOR

The instructor will reschedule the appointment at a time agreeable to both parties, failing which the student will be refunded with a missed lesson fee or the fee can be used for a future class.

LATE ARRIVAL

Fees are calculated according to the times stipulated in the schedule and no adjustment shall be made for time lost because of late arrival by the student.

Any lost time because of the late arrival of the instructor shall be compensated for by extending a lesson by mutual agreement and by the amount of time that was lost.

OBLIGATIONS OF THE INSTRUCTOR

The instructor undertakes to do all preparation prior to lessons and to structure lessons in such a way as to optimize time to the benefit of the student.

The instructor shall not assign any of his/her duties or obligations under this teaching agreement to a third party.

The instructor shall at no time be required or obliged to execute homework or assignments on behalf of the student.

OBLIGATIONS OF THE STUDENT

The student undertakes to assist the instructor in identifying problem areas in which the student needs specific teaching.

The student agrees that assignments, exercises, or homework form an integral part of teaching and undertakes to complete such work seriously.

STATUS OF THE INSTRUCTOR

It is expressly understood that the student retains the services of the instructor as an independent instructor and not as an employee.

NO WARRANTIES

The instructor makes no promises or warranties with regards to a student’s performance as a result of any teaching provided.

OWNERSHIP/COPYRIGHT

The instructor has the right to reproduce artwork for educational or promotional purposes only, unless otherwise noted by the creator, or the rightful owner.

LIABILITY

The instructor is not responsible for any injury, loss, theft or damage to the student and their property, arising out of or pertaining to preparation for or participation in the student’s art lesson, whether such injury, theft, or damage occurred prior, during, or after the lesson.

WHOLE AGREEMENT

This agreement constitutes the entire understanding between the parties regarding the subject matter thereof and the parties waive the right to rely on any alleged expressed or implied provision not contained herein. Any alteration to this agreement must be in writing and signed by both parties.
